{"id":906,"date":"2019-01-31T10:00:35","date_gmt":"2019-01-31T10:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=906"},"modified":"2019-02-01T19:38:44","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T19:38:44","slug":"tulip-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=906","title":{"rendered":"Tulip time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tulip-Time.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-899\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tulip-Time.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tulip-Time.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tulip-Time-150x101.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tulip-Time-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Just to remind us that Spring is on its way.<\/p>\n<p>A rather free interpretation of tulips in Pot Sunlight &#8211; the Lady Lever Gallery overlooks the garden leading to the rather splendid War Memorial.<\/p>\n<p>The building itself is sketched in using shadows create its shape.\u00a0 It always surprised me how much of a likeness you can get just by painting a few shadows!\u00a0 Anything more detailed would overpower the flowers,\u00a0 the focus of the picture.\u00a0 Using blue helps to push the building back, as does the largely blue green of the trees.<\/p>\n<p>The flowers themselves were indicated by a mid-toned pink wash across the page which was allowed to dry.\u00a0 Then I introduced\u00a0 solid shapes made\u00a0 in dark tones of Alizarin Crimson, some of them touch with blue, by pressing on the heel of the brush for each individual flower head.\u00a0 Bluey green leaves and stems, randomly connected to flower heads provide the foliage.\u00a0 There was an underplanting of forget-me-nots which I created by speckling blue paint using my finger running over an old toothbrush charged with a fairly thick paint.<\/p>\n<p>This was something of an experiment at the time &#8211; an exercise in minimalism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just to remind us that Spring is on its way.
