{"id":880,"date":"2018-12-13T10:00:25","date_gmt":"2018-12-13T10:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=880"},"modified":"2018-12-12T17:17:19","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T17:17:19","slug":"watergate-row-chester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=880","title":{"rendered":"Watergate  Row, Chester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just a reminder that the sun does shine!\u00a0 Often strong sunlight makes for entrancing shadows, and this picture is really all about the shadows cast across the pavement of the Row.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sunlit-Rows.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-882\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sunlit-Rows.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"688\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sunlit-Rows.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sunlit-Rows-150x129.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Sunlit-Rows-300x258.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>For those of you who don&#8217;t know Chester, the Rows are walkways, sitting on top of the ground level shops, that have other shops opening on to them &#8211; highly convenient in wet weather but also useful places to sketch and paint in summer time too.\u00a0 The sun is shining almost directly into the Row, and it&#8217;s the &#8220;almost&#8221; that makes the shadows attract the eye.\u00a0 We have busy diagonals, the row edges and the shadows crossing each other again and again, all adding up to an active painting.<\/p>\n<p>Looking through the open side of the row, you can see the other side of the street, shaded and painted in undemanding colour.\u00a0 Most of the area within the Row is painted in dark tones, so the brightest tones are the girl&#8217;s trousers and the tops of the bushes.\u00a0 It is the strong contrasts of tone highlighted with a few splashes of bright colour that tell you it&#8217;s a hot day.\u00a0 Though the foot path is actually grey, but by playing up the sunlight using cream and creating the shadows on it in a complementary mauve,\u00a0 I have made the day even hotter.\u00a0 Memories are made of this!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just a reminder that the sun does shine!\u00a0 Often strong sunlight makes for entrancing shadows, and this picture is really all about the shadows cast across the pavement of the Row.
