{"id":754,"date":"2018-08-02T10:00:56","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T09:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=754"},"modified":"2018-08-02T08:46:15","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T07:46:15","slug":"chinese-dragons-and-lampshades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=754","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Dragons and Lampshades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have been re-decorating our sitting room, and now have an exuberance of parrots swirling over the curtains.\u00a0 They cover the length of the room so are very dominant and they lift my heart every time I go in there.\u00a0 Closed, they veil the room in pale green light, like suffused sunlight through trees.<\/p>\n<p>It follows , to me anyway, that bright colour accents must dance around the room, so I have sought out our most colourful ornaments, especially the more exotic ones.\u00a0 I have a herd of disparate elephants, three &#8220;traffic light&#8221; Limoges enamel bowls,\u00a0 a twenties vase covered with splodges of paint, six brightly coloured clip-on budgerigars climbing over the lampshades, and a black wooden statue lamp of a Chinese boy holding a bat, wing extended, (!) and a lotus flower.\u00a0 This last I have known since before I can remember.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Idol.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-757 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Idol.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"182\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Idol.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Idol-112x150.jpg 112w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Idol-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Idol-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 182px) 85vw, 182px\" \/><\/a> He needs a shade.\u00a0 So, I have bought a &#8220;coolie&#8221; frame, and some handmade paper featuring leaves which I intend to be the base for a Chinese Dragon crawling round the light.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Chinese-Dragon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-758\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Chinese-Dragon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Chinese-Dragon.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Chinese-Dragon-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Chinese-Dragon-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>I have sourced the Dragon ( he needs a Capital Letter, I think) from a kimono, but he&#8217;s very confined.\u00a0 His limbs must move out from his body if he is to curl effectively.\u00a0 I also want him to stand proud of the shade to create a sense of movement.\u00a0 He&#8217;ll be in watercolour when I get that far so this story does have relevance to a painting blog!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have been re-decorating our sitting room, and now have an exuberance of parrots swirling over the curtains.\u00a0 They cover the length of the room so are very dominant and they lift my heart every time I go in there.\u00a0 Closed, they veil the room in pale green light, like suffused sunlight through trees.
