{"id":601,"date":"2018-01-30T10:00:09","date_gmt":"2018-01-30T10:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=601"},"modified":"2018-01-29T10:16:23","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T10:16:23","slug":"in-need-of-repair-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=601","title":{"rendered":"In need of repair &#8211; 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last August , I wrote about a painting I had found unfinished after reorganising my studio.\u00a0 I was struggling to re-engage with my former painting self, and , although doing a watercolour of the scene helped a bit, it still didn&#8217;t sort things out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Louvciennes-sunshine.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-603 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Louvciennes-sunshine-223x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Louvciennes-sunshine-223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Louvciennes-sunshine-112x150.jpg 112w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Louvciennes-sunshine-761x1024.jpg 761w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Louvciennes-sunshine.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 223px) 85vw, 223px\" \/><\/a>Finally, I have finished it &#8211; and am delighted with the result. (That&#8217;s two delights in a row, last week and this week, &#8211; I&#8217;m beginning to feel nervous).\u00a0 The crux of the matter was the shadow of the nearest building.\u00a0 Since this building is an addition from another picture with different lighting, I had to re-construct how far the shadow would stretch across the road &#8211; not a serious problem.\u00a0 However, I had quite forgotten what colours I had used to indicate the shadow on the sunny building. I found myself trying very hard to achieve the right tone and colour using Burnt Sienna\u00a0 and Ultramarine Violet to no avail.\u00a0 I had used Burnt Sienna in the watercolour, of course.\u00a0 All was resolved when I remembered I had used Raw Sienna in the oil.\u00a0 The moral of the story is, &#8220;Don&#8217;t wait so long before you finish a painting&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a pleasing composition too,\u00a0 the active diagonal lines leading the eye to the old dilapidated building in the centre of the picture, while the trudging fellow anchors everything there too.\u00a0 People in pictures always draw themselves to our attention, self-centred beings that we are!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last August , I wrote about a painting I had found unfinished after reorganising my studio.\u00a0 I was struggling to re-engage with my former painting self, and , although doing a watercolour of the scene helped a bit, it still didn&#8217;t sort things out.
