{"id":557,"date":"2017-11-21T10:00:44","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T10:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=557"},"modified":"2017-11-18T09:58:31","modified_gmt":"2017-11-18T09:58:31","slug":"more-pencilwork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=557","title":{"rendered":"More Pencilwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was so pleased with the pencil work results that I finished the painting!\u00a0 In fact, I liked it so much that I signed it.<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Pencil-cottage01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-560\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Pencil-cottage01-236x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Pencil-cottage01-236x300.jpg 236w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Pencil-cottage01-118x150.jpg 118w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Pencil-cottage01-807x1024.jpg 807w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Pencil-cottage01.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 236px) 85vw, 236px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am enjoying the quiet, steady, progress of the painting technique &#8211; I can&#8217;t believe I wrote that &#8211; it fits so well with the time and place in which I can paint and I am discovering new\u00a0 aspects of myself.\u00a0 I had not thought that the prejudices I had overcome when painting for &#8220;The Bridges of Dee&#8221; would be followed so quickly by the collapse, the total collapse, of my fear of pencil drawing.\u00a0 Looking back, I see that &#8220;fear&#8221; is the right word.\u00a0 I am only in the foothills but this is\u00a0 a mountain worth conquering.\u00a0 Finally I can lay out in free hand a preparatory sketch\u00a0 before painting, and I am sure that as I practise this new skill, that freedom will translate to my brush and pastel.<\/p>\n<p>What have I learnt so far ?\u00a0 If a pale wash is wanted, certainly on hot pressed paper, scrubbing the pencil on a spare bit of paper and lifting the colour on a wet brush is working satisfactorily (the sky); texture and detail can be indicated at will and either left to speak for itself or melded with the painting by a wash of water (the distant hill and the hay field); more graduation of tone came be achieved by mixing the wet paint on the paper\u00a0 (the bushes); this can then be worked on to introduce more texture; very deep tones have come by working directly into wetted paper with\u00a0 the pencil.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was so pleased with the pencil work results that I finished the painting!\u00a0 In fact, I liked it so much that I signed it.
