{"id":511,"date":"2017-10-03T10:00:10","date_gmt":"2017-10-03T09:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=511"},"modified":"2017-10-01T15:35:50","modified_gmt":"2017-10-01T14:35:50","slug":"more-meandering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=511","title":{"rendered":"More meandering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I enjoyed making my meander book and filling it with treasures.\u00a0 But I think I can go further with this idea.\u00a0 The construction of the book itself with its seven pockets gives the possibility of several surface designs.\u00a0 My first one was constructed from a piece of marbled paper I had made many years ago, and represents the full page design. But the book gets its name from the meandering folds of construction.\u00a0 All you need to start is a square of paper &#8211; size is unimportant, as the book is created by folding &#8211; and it is those folds which open up the design ideas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Meander-cut.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-518\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Meander-cut-300x176.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Meander-cut-300x176.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Meander-cut-150x88.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Meander-cut.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The nearest of these squares represents the folds.\u00a0 Each square is folded in half, wrong sides together, then each flap is folded back on itself so that the folded paper resembles a W in profile.\u00a0 Open it up and repeat in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p>The first square represents the cuts made, two outside ones from one direction and the middle one from the other.\u00a0 If this has been done correctly the pages should fold naturally into a little &#8220;book&#8221; with lots of folds down one side.\u00a0 This is the spine.\u00a0 The pockets for the treasures are made using double sided sticky tape.<\/p>\n<p>The decoration of this paper before the treasures are even considered is the stage I&#8217;m interested in.\u00a0 Since each mini-square is a &#8220;page&#8221;
