{"id":1544,"date":"2021-02-11T10:00:53","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T10:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1544"},"modified":"2021-02-09T16:34:44","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T16:34:44","slug":"splodgy-oils","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1544","title":{"rendered":"Splodgy oils"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the years, we have collected a number of paintings, largely oils, in a wide variety of styles.\u00a0 In fact we reckon to have at least one painting of some kind that appeals to every visitor. \u00a0 As my painting skills improved, I have studied them carefully. \u00a0 As ever, I wanted to know &#8220;How he, it&#8217;s usually but not always &#8220;he&#8221;, did it. \u00a0 Repainting the bedroom means changing pictures to those that benefit from the new colour scheme, and that means you see each painting anew. that&#8217;s definitely a willow on the far bank; how does the splodgy water look so wet?\u00a0 Those splodges need a closer look.<\/p>\n<p>They are nearly all rounded at the top and then dragged down a little.\u00a0 The tool is a palette knife, certainly, but which shape?\u00a0 I experimented with my dozen or so and discovered that my very first palette knife was the best at recreating that shape.\u00a0 Its rounded end actually fitted the splodges on the painting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/green-splodge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1548\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/green-splodge-265x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/green-splodge-265x300.jpg 265w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/green-splodge-132x150.jpg 132w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/green-splodge.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 85vw, 265px\" \/><\/a>I had begun an oil some time ago. in fact it is the subject of &#8220;Back to oil painting&#8221;\u00a0 in the post of July 30th 2020.\u00a0 So much has happened since then that I never had a chance to complete it. \u00a0 I decided to take it off in a new direction and make it the basis of my splodges.<\/p>\n<p>Paint is loosely mixed on the palette, then a splodge sized amount is taken on the knife and carefully squished in place\u00a0 &#8211;
