{"id":1333,"date":"2020-07-16T10:00:05","date_gmt":"2020-07-16T09:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1333"},"modified":"2020-07-15T18:24:06","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T17:24:06","slug":"canoeing-katherine-gorge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1333","title":{"rendered":"Canoeing &#8211; Katherine Gorge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m back in Australia, where I was a year ago today, though this scene is from later in the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the holiday was a train ride on The Ghan &#8211; my bucket list isn&#8217;t very big, but this trip was definitely on it.\u00a0 We started in Alice Springs (see &#8220;the Red Desert&#8221; from January of this year) and The Ghan took us North, eventually\u00a0 to Darwin.\u00a0 On the way, we spent half a day gliding down Katherine Gorge, cool on the water.\u00a0 Lots of Geology! and here is some of it.<\/p>\n<p>I love the colours in the rock, this sheer cliff face faceted and patterned, crying out for watercolour.\u00a0 I had an idea that the myriad undercuts would work well using the deeper colour which gathers at the base of a stroke as the defining technique.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Cliff-beginnings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1337\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Cliff-beginnings-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Cliff-beginnings-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Cliff-beginnings-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Cliff-beginnings.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>As you can see, the idea had merit, but &#8230; there is always a but!
