{"id":1301,"date":"2020-06-04T10:00:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-04T09:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1301"},"modified":"2020-06-04T08:33:47","modified_gmt":"2020-06-04T07:33:47","slug":"my-garden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1301","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;My Garden&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve edged up to this one.\u00a0 I am surprised how daunted I still am about painting &#8220;in a book&#8221;.\u00a0 I remember being very taken with a painting journal a friend of mine would do during every holiday, her text and her illustrations.\u00a0 Even lines of washing have a different resonance when waving in an Italian breeze.\u00a0 I loved the idea but never attempted it myself.<\/p>\n<p>Something structural, then &#8211; it&#8217;s always easier with straight lines defining areas.\u00a0 I have a rather pleasing photo on an arch leading into a little paved part of my garden.\u00a0 It has a classic shape, with simple bushy mounds around and a flat lawn in front.\u00a0 A few sketched lines gave me a map of the design and I started tentatively with watercolour pencils.\u00a0 The plan seems to have worked since I got something down and am not staring at a blank page.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Pencil-Garden-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1303\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Pencil-Garden-01-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Pencil-Garden-01-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Pencil-Garden-01-109x150.jpg 109w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Pencil-Garden-01-745x1024.jpg 745w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Pencil-Garden-01.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 218px) 85vw, 218px\" \/><\/a>I began with the terracotta pot in the foreground.\u00a0 That worked so I was encouraged to grow the painting from there, gradually rising through the bushes to the woodwork itself.\u00a0 The old oak beyond the fence shows signs of being successful.
