{"id":1259,"date":"2020-04-16T10:00:56","date_gmt":"2020-04-16T09:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1259"},"modified":"2020-04-12T10:03:21","modified_gmt":"2020-04-12T09:03:21","slug":"look-what-i-found","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1259","title":{"rendered":"Look what I found!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was tidying the studio after finishing the big picture and found two efforts that need finishing.\u00a0 One was fairly recent since it is one of my Australian paintings.\u00a0 Do you remember the Sandstone cliffs I painted with a palette knife last October?\u00a0 I mentioned the twisted tree perched on the cliff edge that I was dithering about.\u00a0 I reckoned that I would leave it till the canvas was dry.\u00a0 That way I could wash it out if I didn&#8217;t like it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cliffs-with-tree.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1262\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cliffs-with-tree-251x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cliffs-with-tree-251x300.jpg 251w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cliffs-with-tree-126x150.jpg 126w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cliffs-with-tree.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 251px) 85vw, 251px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 I tried to introduce it using a palette knife, but it was in the wrong place and looked clumsy.\u00a0 So,I washed it out with turps, just like I said I would. \u00a0\u00a0 If I&#8217;d done it with a knife when the paint was wet, like the grasses,\u00a0 it would probably have worked.\u00a0 A brush worked over the bumps of dry paint, and by introducing purples and blues and maroons throughout the battered, little tree, I was able to integrate the addition into the whole.\u00a0 Then I darkened the sea at the horizon .\u00a0 The tree seems to have improved the composition by linking the grasses on this cliff top we are standing on with the more distant ones.<\/p>\n<p>The other finding was a pastel I started as a demonstration for an Art Group in Carrog.\u00a0 Naturally, I chose to paint Carrog Bridge.\u00a0 It&#8217;s such a landmark in the area.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Carrog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1265\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Carrog-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Carrog-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Carrog-150x116.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Carrog.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> In fact it was the first bridge I painted in my &#8220;Painting the bridges of Dee&#8221;
