{"id":1103,"date":"2019-10-10T10:00:41","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T09:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1103"},"modified":"2019-10-10T10:33:12","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T09:33:12","slug":"gum-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1103","title":{"rendered":"Gum Trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/appearing-path.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1105\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/appearing-path.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"317\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/appearing-path.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/appearing-path-119x150.jpg 119w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/appearing-path-238x300.jpg 238w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 317px) 85vw, 317px\" \/><\/a>Meanwhile, progress is apparent among the gum trees.\u00a0 Most obvious is the light on the path and some of the trees\u00a0 The curve of the path round the nearest tree on the right is satisfying but more thought is needed on the middle ground where there is dip in the ground but also a camber on the path.\u00a0 Until I get that sorted the light on the path is fighting the direction of shadows.<\/p>\n<p>Looking a\u00a0 painting in reduced form as in a photograph does help to pinpoint unhappy areas.\u00a0 The sky is too bright a blue, creating energy where quiet is required.\u00a0 I have something of a conundrum here, as using a lighter blue will undermine the light on the path, while greys will reduce the impact of the trees.\u00a0 Even so I think the latter is the way to go as the light is a more important feature of the painting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ToDo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1110\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ToDo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"319\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ToDo.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ToDo-119x150.jpg 119w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/ToDo-237x300.jpg 237w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 319px) 85vw, 319px\" \/><\/a>I have worked on the canopy.\u00a0 This is not the focus of the picture but it still should present a more complete image.\u00a0 It&#8217;s largely dark green but such greens are more effective if other darks, blues, purples, (even Alizarin Crimson if appropriate) \u00a0 are added to the mix.\u00a0 This has filled out the canopy and emphasised the\u00a0 bright light beneath.\u00a0 I have also lightened the bank on the left hand side but this has still not resolved the unhappy path.\u00a0\u00a0 I tried cropping the picture to see if removing the foreground would help &#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1111\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Cropped.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"382\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Cropped.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Cropped-134x150.jpg 134w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Cropped-268x300.jpg 268w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 382px) 85vw, 382px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>but I think that reduces the impact of the height of the trees.\u00a0 Thinking caps required!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meanwhile, progress is apparent among the gum trees.\u00a0 Most obvious is the light on the path and some of the trees\u00a0 The curve of the path round the nearest tree on the right is satisfying but more thought is needed on the middle ground where there is dip in the ground but also a camber &hellip;
