{"id":1089,"date":"2019-09-26T10:00:46","date_gmt":"2019-09-26T09:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1089"},"modified":"2019-09-22T13:51:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-22T12:51:20","slug":"small-advances-on-two-fronts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/?p=1089","title":{"rendered":"Small advances on two fronts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week I have worked on both current paintings, though one of them has been &#8220;current&#8221; for some time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/His-Head.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1092\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/His-Head-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/His-Head-215x300.jpg 215w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/His-Head-108x150.jpg 108w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/His-Head-735x1024.jpg 735w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/His-Head.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 215px) 85vw, 215px\" \/><\/a>Having changed the pose of my figures in the oil painting, and liked the new atmosphere the changes have created, I made a start on the man&#8217;s head.\u00a0 I have to say that it looks like him! and is exactly how I have wanted the figures to appear.\u00a0 I said all along that I didn&#8217;t want to paint a portrait, but only a recognisable figure.\u00a0 We can recognise people from a distance by the way they carry themselves, so detail is not necessary to create a likeness.\u00a0 This is much easier to catch, too.<\/p>\n<p>The pastel also is gaining shape and perspective.\u00a0 I had intended to work on<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Gum-trees-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1093\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Gum-trees-02-243x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"243\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Gum-trees-02-243x300.jpg 243w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Gum-trees-02-121x150.jpg 121w, https:\/\/blog.williamsonfineart.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Gum-trees-02.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 243px) 85vw, 243px\" \/><\/a> the two trees just in from the right hand side, and did start there. \u00a0 Inevitably the background was called into play for one shapes the other.\u00a0 I seem to have lost the path which curves among the trees, but the blue-greens of Australia\u00a0 are apparent.\u00a0 The sunshine catching the right side of those trees will also illuminate the nearest tree on the left so that the path (when I find it again) and the shadows\u00a0 will be balanced by the strong verticals of the sunlit trees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week I have worked on both current paintings, though one of them has been &#8220;current&#8221; for some time.
